To celebrate the holidays, a time for family gatherings, gratitude, and food and spirits, I offer you my top 10 hacks for Clutter Clearing.

Clear the Clutter…Clear the Mind ™

Follow these tips and tools for creating a space you and your guests will love.  Simple to identify, perhaps more challenging to adopt, and, by making a concerted effort, you will soon be free of clutter and its nagging energy drain and replace clutter with pride, freedom and self-control.

                                                                                                                                                                                                              Let’s get started!

  1. Make your Bed – The Navy Seal, Admiral William McRaven, speaks about making your bed. Watch him on YouTube.  Making your bed brings you early day success, control, and begins your day with a win!  The little things add up to big wins!!  Make your Bed.
  1. Put Things in Their Place – Did you know we spend 2.5 days each year looking for our keys, phones, glasses and wallets?? Think about how many times, in YOUR OWN HOME, you ask, “Where’s my phone?”, “Where are my keys?”, and we’ve been stumped by misplacing our glasses only to realize they are right on our heads!!! By creating a front door place to put your essential items, and placing them there as a daily habit, you’ll have more time to look for the TV remote !!!  Put Things in Their Place.
  1. Add Living Things to your Home – Feng Shui practitioners know that adding life to your home impacts your well-being. WE are alive, we thrive with life, and so, mirror this basic force of nature. Add LIVING plants and remove those dust-catching plastic flowers.  Add LIVING animals, add a fish tank, enjoy the company of a bird, dog, cat or snake!  Finally, add a LIVING waterfall element, by the front door, in a space where you can joyously here the sound of running water.  If these hacks don’t cut it, add a diffuser with essential oils for an aromatic environment.  Add Living Things.
  1. Remove Toxins – Did you know there are over 300 chemical ingredients in a Glade or Airwick plug in? While we love the smell of freshly baked cookies- don’t shortcut the experience… BAKE the COOKIES for real. The toxic ingredients found in Febreze, Glade, and Airwick create brain damage and must be kept out of the home or office.  Bake the cookies, use essential oils, incense, fresh bouquet of flowers, but please stop the artificial fragrance onslaught brought on by chemical companies.  Hint: Those trash bags that smell like lemon, “Not so Much”.  Remove Toxins.
  1. Take on Your Clutter First –  Blaming others is a nasty way of deflecting your own “stuff”.  Lead by example and clear your clutter first.  Others will see and feel the benefit of organizing your space.  Take on Your Clutter First.
  1. Discard J.I.C. ™ Items – What’s J.I.C. mean, you ask? It stands for Just In Case. Just in Case, we have a hurricane, we need XYZ.  Fair enough.  But do we need every TV remote we’ve ever had, even after the TV has been trashed years ago?  Do we need every cable, wire, telephone plug and “orphan” A/C plug kept in a bin, just in case, that old electric shaver resurfaces somehow? If, after a while those kitchen storage lids DON’T match up, get rid of them.  Discard J.I.C. Items.
  1. Clear Sink Clutter – Simple enough. Clear the Sink of dinner pots and pans and leave the sink clean and clear for a FRESH start each day. You’ll feel better. Promise. Clear Sink Clutter.
  1. BOTO ™ Buy One, Toss One.  Familiar with BOGO, Buy One, Get One?  Now it’s time to BOTO, Buy One, Toss One (of anything). Donate or re-gift these items.  If your clutter is daunting, BOTT, buy one toss two!!!  BOTO.
  1. Share – When we donate our unwanted, no longer needed items, we create good vibes. A better way of being. Sharing your things helps others find joy in your stuff. Tis the season (and all year long) to donate your unwanted items.  Tax-deductible, sure, but more importantly, you’re giving back to society.  Share.
  1. Choose an Attitude of Gratitude – By embracing your kept items, discarding and sharing your old things, you’ll transform your home, your space, and your well-being… from chaos to clarity, from mess to masterpiece. Wake up in a space of gratitude, go to bed with a feeling of gratitude. The rest will take care of itself. Choose an Attitude of Gratitude.

If you’ve found these hacks, these tips, to be of value, please SHARE (see #9). Together, we can accomplish so much.  Let’s ignite sisterhood, brotherhood, friendship and love, not only in December, but each and every moment we are alive.

Wishing you light and love, peace and health, and wishes for a year ahead where you GO FOR IT and write that book, adopt an animal, complete your bucket list and have ALL YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE.

Namaste.  Love.  Peace.
